The Plantronics headsets are high quality and designed to last. However, even the most durable headsets are not unbreakable, and the wrong treatment can not only compromise the quality of the sound but significantly decrease the lifespan of the headset. Use these five tips to make your headset last as long as possible.
- Never wrap the cable tightly around your music player. Many of us have been guilty of this at some point or another. Coiling or twisting the cable tightly (especially twisting it) weakens the electrical conductors which will, over time, cause the headset to stop working.
- Don’t pull the cord to remove the headset. I’m most definitely guilty of this (it’s the reason I need to replace the charger for my e-reader). Pull the plug to remove your headset from a computer, phone or mp3 player. Don’t just grab the cord and pull.
- Unplug when not in use. You probably never think about it, but by unplugging the headset when you aren’t using it, you’re giving it a rest from the power current that flows through the cords, which will prolong its lifespan.
- Keep it in a case. If you keep your headset in a case when you aren’t using it you will minimize the risk of inadvertently damage it.
- Clean it on occasion. While you don’t need to clean it daily, sporadically cleaning the headset will ensure you receive the best quality. Wipe the headset with a moist towel to remove dirt and oil that build up over time.
